This drawing was also made for yesterday's workshop. Inspired by the little dark spiders that were all around the place we were having the workshop.

This saturday I participate in workshop about fanzines, where we created a collective fanzine. This was one of my contribuitions. It says "this is the way I run from the rain". I was trying to go for something a little bit nonsense I guess.

O meu computador decidiu no inicio da semana variar outra vez. Estive quase dois dias sem ele! O que para mim é muito, porque estou quase sempre em frente ao pc.
Para não pensar muito no que precisa de fazer no pc, e para relaxar um pouco desenhei.
Desenhei alguns desenhos para a exposição dos sonhos (podem ver um pequeno detalhe em cima, o resto vai ficar no segredo dos deuses - por enquanto).
Ao regressar ao desenho, deu-me saudades de desenhar as esquilo Snuggly e Chubby. Comecei a inventar, e acabaram por nascer uns quantos cadernos novos, que estão neste momento na minha secretária à espera de serem acabados.

My computer decided take some holidays again. I've been without it for a couple of days. Which for me it's a lot of time, because I'm always on it.
To ease my mind from it and also relax a bit I started to draw a lot.
I draw a few illustrations for our upcoming exhibition about dreams (the detail above is one of them, the rest will remain a secret a little bit more time.)
Getting back to sketching, make me realise how much I've miss to draw Snuggly and Chubby (the squirrels). I started to creating a few drawings and a few new notebooks were born. And right now they are here at my desk waiting to be finished.

These illustrated cover are in multiple stages of finishes, and I'm sharing them from the most incomplete to the most completed.

Neste é a Chubby, como sempre a comer e rodeada dos seus queridos livros e de cactus. \\ In these one it will be Chubby, of course she will be eating and have a couple of books and cactus around her.

A vida da esquilo Chubby sem bolachas não era a mesma coisa, por isso neste momento ela está a treinar para um novo desporto - Cookie diving. \\ Chubby's life wouldn't be the same withou cookies, and that's why she is trainning for a new sported that she invented - Cookie Diving.

Se costumam estar atentos à nossa página de facebook já viram um pequeno detalhe deste caderno. É um caça-sonhos também conhecido por espanta-espiritos. Por aqui gostamos de lhe chamar pela versão inglesa - dreamcatcher. \\ If you pay attention to our facebook page you might have seen a detail from this notebook. It's a dreamcatcher.

As esquilos tanto falam em viajar que decidiram dar um saltinho a Paris e deliciarem-se com algumas comidas locais. \\ The squirrels are always dreaming about travelling, in this notebook they went to Paris and they trying the local food.

Como já devem ter dado conta, aqui na nuts fazemos dois tipos de cadernos. Cadernos desenhados e pintados à mão,  e cadernos com ilustrações originais mas reproduzidos/ impressos.
O processo criativo é semelhante, no entanto sempre condicionado pelas técnicas.

You must have noticed that here at Nuts for Paper we do two types of notebooks. Hand drawn and hand painted notebook covers and hand drawn illustrations printed and reproduced notebook covers.
The creative process is similar, however the tecnhiques condition how it's made.

Por exemplo: os cadernos desenhados e pintados à mão têm de ser pintados com tintas resistentes, que não esborratem com o toque e uso dos cadernos. As canetas usadas para o acabamento e pormenores têm de ser resistentes à àgua, como gostamos que o desenho e não a linha seja o mais importante, não podem ser muito grossos, etc.

For example: the hand drawn and painted covers have to be painted with resistant inks, that don't smudge by touch and use. The pens used for the details must be water resistant, and as we like the drawing to be more important than the lines, it can't be too thick, etc.

No caso dos cadernos impressos, o desenho também começa no papel. Do esboço ao desenho final apenas a linha que depois é digitalizado, vectorizado e pintado digitalmente. Após a finalização da ilustração passa-se para a paginação da mesma, pensando sempre no produto final.

In the case of the printed covers, the drawing is also hand drawn. From sketch to the final drawing only in lines, which are scanned, vectorized and painted digitally. After finishing the illustration is set on the page, always thinking about the final product - the notebook.

Na primeira opção os cadernos são únicos, por mais que se tente, nunca vão sair dois cadernos iguais. Na segunda opção pode-se reproduzir várias vezes. Pode-se alterar a cores para outras, pode-se com os mesmos desenhos criar outras composições ou padrões.

In the first option the notebooks are unique, no matter how many times we can try to do similar drawings, it will never be the same thing. In the second option we can reproduce it as many times as we wish. But we can also chance the colours, with the same drawing can be made other compositions or patterns.

Pessoalmente não consigo escolher qual o processo ou resultado que gosto mais.

Personally I can't choose which pattern is the best or which one I like more.
But what about you? What are your favourites?


Nalguns casos até juntamos as duas opções, com as labels desenhadas à mão. Pessoalmente gosto da combinação. Acho que é o toque certo para tornar o caderno único, especialmente se for para oferecer a alguém.

In some case we even reunite the both options, like the above one, with the hand drawn labels. Personally I love this combo. It's what makes something regular to another level of unique, and specially if it's to offer to someone.
